Le Germain Hotel Montreal

Le Germain Hotel Montreal resides within a historical 1967 building. The owner's endeavor to rejuvenate the interior spaces, drawing inspiration from the vibrant spirit of the sixties, serves as an homage to both the era's iconic design ethos and the enchanting city of Montreal. Despite nostalgic inclinations, Le Germain establishments are distinguished by unequivocally modern aesthetics. Within the 130 rooms and five luxurious suites, one encounters a marriage of minimalist sensibilities with opulent details — sleek lines interwoven with sumptuously soft, earth-toned hues and tantalizing textures. From the elegant tubular wood paneling to the gracefully contoured furnishings, and from the evocative molded plastic "bubble" chairs to the ethereal glow of spherical lamps, every element beckons with a sense of timeless allure. In this setting, inspiration abounds at every turn.

The approach

In close collaboration with our client and the esteemed architecture firm Lemay-Michaud, our aim was to imbue the room's artwork with boldness while staying true to the original concept envisioned by the client. The 1960s were characterized by fearless forays into the boundaries of photographic expression of the time.

Our research led us to seek out a local photographer whose work embodies a minimalist and geometric aesthetic. Thus, our partnership with Nik Mirus commenced. Mirus's oeuvre resides at the intersection of graphic design and photography, boasting a bold, minimalist, and vibrant quality. His compositions are defined by straight, immaculate lines, each element purposefully placed.

Drawing inspiration from 1960s screen printing techniques, Mirus embarked on a series of experiments, ultimately achieving a mesmerizing visual effect that seamlessly melds the essence of the era with his contemporary vision.
