Production of “In Gun We Trust”
(2017 - 2019)
“Jean-Francois Bouchard is a photographer whose work functions both as art and documentation, yet he also operates as a conceptual artist employing an array of materials and mediums to amplify and enrich the story-telling aspects of his photography. His non-photographic work maps onto that of Pierre Huyghe, who creates physical, biological and psychic ecosystems in which a viewer/participant must navigate the real world to generate complex emotions and new spaces in the mind. His installation work accompanies in situ gallery exhibitions of his photography. With his In Gun We Trust body of photography, Bouchard created three physical installations to be presented alongside what appears on the walls.” -Douglas Coupland.
The show will explore a lesser-known aspect of gun culture in America: the use of military grade guns and canons for entertainment purposes. The pictures will give the viewer the impression that the images have been shot in a war-torn region of the world. But the exhibition will reveal how it was shot right here at home, in the USA. It will explain how Americans are allowed to buy machine guns and use them at their leisure with some of them even training their young kids to use the weapons.
